This weekend will be the anniversary of the Wocky, a whole year after his very first ever event. We will be bringing toasties and tables, and will be able to actually enjoy playing to our home crowd, rather than being terrified that we might get too busy, or that no one would by anything, or that whatever they were buying would explode.
The whole weekend sticks in my mind far more clearly than many of the festivals that have come since. I can still remember our first ever customer quite vividly. He bought the carrot and chickpea bhajis and was not aware of the great historical significance of his purchase until we told him about it. It was the strangest feeling, actually finally selling something we had spent such a long time preparing. Not just the 4 days of preparation that led up to the festival, but the 8 months that we spent doing everything else.
This weekend we are doing toasties so our epic four day prep time is condensed into a single day of madness, much tea and hoping that the bread gets delivered on time. I get to miss most of this due to the day job, and just return home to wash up and munch on he ham trimmings. As we will be able to actually breathe, rather than being a big bundle of stress, I thought I would provide you with a little light entertainment, in case we are indisposed or especially busy, by way of an anniversary gift (1st year – paper). In both cases please still come and say hi, but do excuse us if we are not available to discuss the most recent episode of Doctor Who at reasonable length.
If you do get an entire row it is wholly appropriate to shout “bingo!” and then demand free food from the nearest hog roast. They will understand.
