Note: due to unforeseen circumstances involving the mystery of the Internet this blog post, written last Wednesday 10/10/2012 BEFORE our trip to Digbeth is now actually being published afterwards. Pictures that at the time of writing technically didn’t exist have time-travelled majestically to us and can now fill an otherwise pictureless void. Also these things take bloody ages to write, and I wasn’t just going to waste it. However to save you the unnecessary anticipation and stress of wondering if we survived, if the Beast actually got there and whether we made any money I would like to reassure you that Digbeth was great fun, no one died and everything went largely to plan. More on that story later.
I did not think I was still such a creature of routine, but the broadband has a fault, meaning that I can’t write a blog post in the same way as usual, which invariably involves fiddling on the usual social channels, poking various news websites and consuming the usual stack of humorous cat pictures for inspiration.
Without the web I’m left tapping away on Word, grumpily imagining the bile filled post I would like to write about our internet provider, and failing to focus on the job at hand. I have great news, which up until now has had me in a very fine mood, right up until, and I can calculate this quite exactly, the internet support technician told me to go and open Internet Explorer in the same tone you use to tell a three year old to stop picking its nose and eating it.
My unjustifiable bad mood aside, I am delighted to announce that this Friday we will be bringing Toasties to Digbeth Dining Club. The Jabberwocky will be in the company of the The Meat Shack, whom we met last time we visited Digbeth (we’ll be needing to try a burger), and Susanna’s Churros, who are lovely, and whom we meet pretty much every time we open the hatch on the van.
I’m excited to try serving to what I think is a much more responsive audience, as the twitter-sphere already seems seduced by the prospect of the Banoffee toastie and I think our new veggie option will go down well too. We’re still fiddling with that one, so I won’t give anything away yet. Mostly because it might be totally different by the weekend.
It’s a lovely feeling, having people be excited about your food. It’s exactly what makes this business so much fun. That and infuriating students with quotes from 90s films they don’t quite remember. Oh, and when people take pictures of the van. I imagine it’s a similar feeling to overhearing someone say how great your kids are. And people who come back for seconds. That might be best of all.
The bad mood seems to have lifted, and after writing that I’m not just looking forward to Friday, I’m excited.
