Avocado is currently doing the rounds as a super-food, but we should hold that against it. Super-food status makes it reasonably easy to get hold of. We haven’t used it before either, so an avocado toastie was practically unavoidable.

Taste.
The veggie avocado toastie is very pleasant. Well seasoned avocado has a pleasant taste, and if you like the texture as well it’s a winner. It wasn’t quite there, but that might just be me wanting to put meat in everything. 7/10

The Chicken version, you see, was fantastic. Chicken and avocado are not an especially imaginative combination, but they are a bit of a classic. Chuck a stringy-but-flavoursome cheese like gouda on top and it’s all very delightful and moreish. I was pleasantly surprised: 9/10

Appeal
Expensive veg + expensive cheese + free range chicken isn’t going to make for a cheap toastie, but this one will score very well with the healthy-eaters out there. 8/10

Suitability as a signature.
It’s green, which is very Jabberwocky, and I very much liked the flavour. It doesn’t really do anything new or special though, so not really signature material. 4/10

Difficulty Rating Avocado has a period of approximately 30 minutes during which it is perfectly ripe. Once you have overcome this, the job is a easy one, especially if you like to keep a roast chicken handy for the occasion. Rated simple.

I think that the wild-cooked version will combine both toasties, so chicken, mozzarella, avocado and tomato. That way we can still produce a veggie version, and everyone is a winner. Coming soon to a menu near you.
